Paper “Cupcake” Favor Box

Who doesn’t love cupcakes? Make some “calorie free” paper cupcakes as a favor box for your next party.

This paper cupcake craft is cute and would be perfect as a bridal or baby shower table decoration. Best of all, these are cupcakes that you can enjoy without guilt! I have included free die cut files for download, which include the petal shapes for the “cupcake,” and the wrapper. Follow the easy instructions below.

Supplies needed:

  • 3 inch round paper mache box with lid
  • 3 inch round Styrofoam ball
  • tacky glue
  • foam hot glue sticks
  • glue gun
  • 12 x 12 paper for bottom of box and wrapper
  • 12 x 12 paper for top of cupcake
  • ribbon
  • scissors
  • pearl gemstones
  • Die cut file download

Instructions:

  1. Cut a 9″ x 1.5″ square piece of paper. Use tacky glue to attach to the bottom portion of the paper mache box.
  2. Cut a 9.5″ of ribbon and use tacky glue to attach to the bottom portion of the paper mache lid.
  3. Cut the Styrofoam ball in half with a serrated knife or foam cutter and glue to the top of the paper mache lid with hot glue that is compatible with Styrofoam
    .
  4. Download the die cut files. Cut out petal shapes by hand or with your die cut machine. Files compatible with most devices are included in the download files.
  5. Glue a pearl gemstone to the center of each petal. Give each petal dimension by crimping the petal edges.
  6. Starting with the bottom of the lid using a glue gun to attach the petals to the top of the box (use the picture above for clarification).
  7. The paper mache box now has a cupcake shape, and you can stop at this point if you like. I thought the box looked much better with a wrapper.
  8. Cut out the wrapper by hand or with your die cut machine. Insert the tab into the slot and place the box into the wrapper.

Halloween Candy Corn Treat Box Template

Today’s craft project is a Halloween Candy Corn treat box holder. Die cuts for this project are available for free download and include files that are compatible with most die cut machines. I made this craft out of orange poster board and yellow and white card stock.

The reason I used poster board is that I wanted the project to be a little bit larger. Most of the box templates you see on the internet are made out of 8.5 x 11 size paper, and the results are teeny tiny boxes. They are not useful in the real world.Just follow the easy project steps below for a cute Candy Corn treat box:

Supplies:

  • One sheet orange poster board
  • one sheet yellow 8 x 11 in card stock
  • one sheet white 8 x 11 in card  stock
  • painters tape (optional)
  • candy corn die cut files
  • tacky glue

Instructions:

  1.  Cut an 11 x 17 inch square from orange poster board, and mount on cutting mat.
  2. (*Paper crafting tip) I sometimes have trouble when using a heavier type of paper on a cutting mat. The paper will slide around resulting in wasted paper and bad cuts. I have found that attaching the paper to the mat with painters tape works well. You can peel the tape off the mat without damaging the paper or the mat.
  3. Cut out the bottom and sides of the box on a die cut machine. These pieces can also be cut by hand using the pdf file as a guide.
  4. Glue the square template piece onto the center of the candy corn template as in the photo below.
  5. Glue the sides of the square template to the “corn” template as in the photo below. Make sure to align the top of the square template to the edge of the “corn” template. This placement will result in the top of the “box” part folding inwards, and a bit of the “corn” template protruding on the bottom.
  6. Cut out the yellow and white template pieces and glue to the box as in the completed project photo on the top of this article.
  7. Fill with your choice of candy in a plastic treat bag, and tie with a ribbon.

Just download the free Fourth of July luminaria printable and print out on 11x 17 paper, then cut and glue the tabs. Easy peasy! If your printer doesn’t handle 11×17 paper, you can have it printed at a quick printer ( such as Staple’s or Kinko’s) for a small fee.

Line your walk or driveway, or deck stairs with luminaries for a stunning effect that will encourage fun and festivity at your gathering.

Wrapping Paper Gift Bag/Box

I was shopping at the grocery store the other day and saw some American Greeting Wrapping Paper that I loved. I thought it would make an adorable gift bag,  and I am pleased with the results

Paper crafts can be done with almost any kind of paper, as long as there is some imagination thrown in. Wrapping paper is kind of flimsy, so to add stability, use adhesive spray to attach the wrapping paper to a 12 x 12 sheet of card stock.

These gift bags are quick and easy to make and can be easily personalized to fit any occasion. Give your friends a gift that is special and made from your heart. They will love it.

Supplies:

  • Adhesive glue spray
  • American Greetings Wrapping Paper

  • Ribbon
  • 2.25 Scalloped circle cut from white card stock.
  • One gemstone
  • 1 3/4 inch circle punch
  • Bone Folder
  • Double sided mounting tape

  1. Download template
  2. Print template onto 12 x 12 sheet of card stock.
  3. Cut a 12 x 12 piece of wrapping paper and spray adhesive to glue wrapping paper onto card stock.
  4. Cut template with Xacto knife and ruler. Use a bone folder to score fold lines.
  5. Glue edges of the bag with tacky glue, and fold bag at fold lines.
  6. Wrap and glue ribbon onto the top of the bag as in the photo.
  7. Use double sided mounting tape to attach the scalloped circle to the bag.
  8. Punch 1 3/4 inch circle out of wrapping paper scraps.

Paper Cake Slice with Lid

I thought it would be a good idea to offer a second paper cake slice template with a top lid. The original template closes in the back, and sometimes it is easier to fill from above, i.e., fold you may want to put a slice of real cake in the favor box, and it would be possible with this paper cake box template.

Just download the alternate cake slice template, and cut out the bottom part, fold, and glue. Do the same for the lid. If you want to give your cake slice a more realistic look, cut out a square 10.5 in x 3 in of beige paper. Fold in half, and glue onto the box as in the picture. Put your lid on the box, and glue grosgrain ribbon around the center to mimic cake filling.

To make a round cake, you would have to have 12 slices total. These cakes look beautiful displayed on real cake stands or plates. They also work well as table centerpieces.

Your guests can then take home a cake slice favor box and remember how much they enjoyed your gathering!

Paper Cake Slice Party Favor Boxes

Paper cake slice box party favors are a lovely thank you for guests attending a bridal, wedding or baby shower. Make a paper cake that is not only a beautiful table decoration but also a delightful party favor box your party guests will love.

The craft is a paper cake made up of 12 individual slices, which form a round cake when place together. Each cake slice is a paper container which can be filled with candy, small gifts or anything the hostess of the party wishes to give her guests as a token of her appreciation.

Each paper cake slice is made from an 8.5 x 11  sheet of cardstock. Just print the pdf download onto the sheet of cardstock, cut and glue. It is that easy! This cake looks fabulous displayed on a real cake stand or plate and also works well as a table centerpiece.

You can wrap the cake with a piece of ribbon to simulate icing, and tie the ribbon ends together. Top each cake slice with a paper flower, butterfly, or some frou-frou. My example photo features little silk hydrangeas and green cardstock paper leaves.
Make one “paper cake” for each table at your event, and you will have some thrifty party decor as well. So beautiful and easy on the pocketbook as well!
